The Rock Creek Trail #4 is usually groomed on a weekly basis, depending on snow fall and snow conditions.

Many of these trails are not groomed, if you have spent a lot of time "breaking trail", we would like to hear from you, so others can benefit from your efforts. Just send an email to admin@skihdna.org and it will get posted on the "Trail Grooming" page.

Groomed Rock Creek short loop double-wide and set track, hoping to give snowshoers room to walk without destroying the track. Chopped out some drift areas to make them wider so I wasn't so nervous about side-hulking down into a ravine. I also set track on Penstemon. Didn't get stuck anywhere. It was a good day!

“I went up and groomed lodge loop and upper penstemon and set track. I snowmobile packed rock creek short and lower portion of the long loop. Also snowmobile packed the 500 rd to Thompson creek trail head. May not have done much good as there is supposed to be significant snow tonight and into tomorrow. The snowmobile has plenty of fuel for another round of grooming, only got stuck once but that was my own fault due to flat light, drove off the 500 rd. There is an excellent base so as long as you stay on previous groomed tracks you shouldn't get stuck. Happy trails!”
The 500 road is probably a good place if you’re looking for something easy. You can go as far as you want. The cabins are about 1 and half miles from the lodge one way. Lower rock loop is a nice option if you want a more challenging ski. If you’re going downhill you can get out of the tracks to slow down.

Due to heavy warm settling snow conditions the Rock Creek Long Loop was partially groomed where it parallels the road up to Diamond Field Jacks, and the Rock Creek Short Loop was also partially groomed. Magic Mountain Resort groomed the beginner's loop by the lodge and the lower Penstemon campground trail.

Took the snowmachine around Rock Creek short loop and penstemon, I thought I'd get the groomer on and at least set some tracks, but the snow was deep and fluffy and wonderful and after getting unstuck a 5th time I opted not to try my luck. More snow this week! Dec. 27, 2023, Clay
Trails completed: Rock Creek loop long and short Lower Penstemon Lodge loop Rogerson Road but it needs it again after someone on a UTV drove up it right on the tracks. Dec. 16, 2023, Trail Conditions, Lawrence Flournoy
The Rock Creek long loop has been packed and cleared of down trees. Snow conditions are still good. Despite the lack of snow for the last week, the base is holding. Temperatures have been freezing at night. The beginner loop behind the lodge is groomed and tracked. The 500 Road had been packed with a snow machine. |
